The Underserved Populations Palliative Care Research Special Interest Group will hold its first online meeting in May 2026 for members of AIIHPC Palliative Care Research Network, Early Career Researcher Forum, and Voices4Care (people with life-limiting conditions, carers, family members, and those with an interest in palliative care). This group will focus on palliative care research that supports underserved populations to access services this can include, but is not limited to people with intellectual disability, serious mental illness, communication difficulties, mobility difficulties, or from rural or remote locations, living alone, lower socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnic minority, migrant community, LGBTQIA+ community or dying in prison custody or experiencing homelessness.
The group will meet online on a quarterly basis to discuss research priorities, opportunities and ongoing projects. The group will be chaired by Dr Martin McMahon, Associate Professor of Intellectual Disability Nursing, School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin, and co-chaired by Dr Orla Duffy, Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy, School of Health Sciences, Ulster University.
