Dementia and Palliative Care Research

Special Interest Group

The Dementia and Palliative Care Research Special Interest Group was established in January 2024 by AIIHPC for AIIHPC Palliative Care Research Network, Early Career Researcher Forum, and Voices4Care (people with life-limiting conditions, carers, family members, and those with an interest in palliative care). Members include people with backgrounds and experience in academia, nursing, medicine, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics, dementia advice services, people with palliative care needs, carers, and interested citizens.

The group meets online on a quarterly basis to discuss research priorities, opportunities and ongoing projects.

The group’s current focus areas include:

  • Exploring the utilisation of Emergency Services of people with dementia
  • Interventions to improve care and experience in the Emergency Department of people with dementia
  • Recording of dementia on a death certificate
