Research that is relevant, involves all key stakeholders from the start, and is appropriately resourced can deliver results that can improve the quality of life for people with palliative care needs and their families. It is important for anyone involved in research to develop stakeholder engagement plans which build relationships and collaborations with knowledge users and develop plans for targeted funding to ensure their research is appropriately resourced.
AIIHPC is committed to working with AIIHPC member organisations to provide opportunities for successful stakeholder engagement and funding for research in palliative care on the island of Ireland and internationally. Our members have access to dedicated experts and support when seeking opportunities to engage with stakeholders on their research and develop funding proposals.
We ensure diverse engagement from the start of your research to ensure research is clinically relevant, prioritised by service users and carers, and carried out with academic rigour so that it will impact policy and practice. We support our members to identify and secure this engagement with academic and clinical researchers and knowledge users from across AIIHPC member organisations and networks. This includes supporting members to engage with leading researchers via AIIHPC PCRN and international expert collaborators, people with life-limiting conditions, carers, bereaved carers and interested members of our community via AIIHPC Voices4Care and with policymakers, service providers, and service commissioners via AIIHPC’s extensive networks on the island of Ireland.
We work with our PCRN and ECRF members to alert them to funding opportunities that may be relevant to palliative care research. As well as supporting PCRN members to answer calls at an EU and international level by providing additional information in relation to the call from funders, linking them with key research collaborators on the island and key stakeholders including policy makers, PPI contributors, potential research sites and international collaborators , facilitating video conferences on large scale collaborative funding calls and supporting with grant writing, where appropriate,
We support our members to develop successful funding proposals through our involvement in initial discussions and drafts, providing context and content, and reviewing draft and final proposals. We available to support our members to develop knowledge translation packages for funding proposals including project web pages, blogs, podcasts, and infographics. As well as support for hosting and developing workshops, seminars, and webinars to key stakeholders across research and academia, people with palliative care needs, their families and carers, service providers, clinicians, and policy makers. We can support our members to ensure successful PPI contribution via AIIHPC Voices4Care and we also signpost to other relevant PPI groups.
AIIHPC also provides funding to Palliative Care Research Network and Early Career Researcher Forum members from AIIHPC member organisations through AIIHPC Fellowships and Bursaries funded by HRB and HSC R&D, PHA.
If you would like to learn more about how the Institute can support you with stakeholder engagement and funding support please contact, Dr Mary Rabbitte, AIIHPC Research Programme Manager: mrabbitte@aiihpc.org
AIIHPC provided invaluable support and guidance on the development of the knowledge transfer and exchange work package for mySupport study. From the proposal stage when seeking EU funding to designing the project name and logo using input from AIIHPC’s Voices4Care panel (people with life-limiting conditions, carers and interested citizens). The Institute’s expertise, skills and resources have assisted in the development of the website, research literature and provided opportunities for dissemination to a wide variety of audiences supporting us to build a following for this research.
