Children’s Palliative Care Research Special Interest Group

Group Chair:

Professor Veronica Lambert, School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health, Dublin City University

Group Vice Chair:

Dr Samantha Smith, Research Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin

The Children’s Palliative Care Research Special Interest Group will hold its first online meeting on 3 December 2025 after its launch at the 14th Annual Palliative Care Research Network Symposium on 20 November. Membership will include researchers, health and social care professionals, policy makers, patient and public involvement contributors, and more – drawn from across AIIHPC’s networks and member organisations, and across the Island of Ireland. The Children’s Palliative Care Special Interest Group will develop a coordinated and coherent plan for multidisciplinary research to address key evidence gaps in children’s palliative care on the island of Ireland, building on the existing research priorities in the field. The process will involve:

  • coordinating a wide range of stakeholders across healthcare, policy, and research
  • incorporating the voices of parents, carers, and, where possible, children and young people themselves
  • assessing current research to identify evidence gaps; and developing shared goals for new research.

These goals will guide future funding applications and help advance a unified programme of children’s palliative care research across island of Ireland.
