Cancer is among the largest drivers of morbidity and mortality worldwide, causing physical, psychological and emotional strain for both patients and caregivers. The authors estimated the cost-effectiveness of two dyadic psychoeducational interventions (FOCUS+ and iFOCUS) compared to usual care for people with advanced cancer and their primary family caregiver. Exploring engagement with a web-based self-directed psychoeducational program for advanced cancer patients and their caregivers (iFOCUS): A sub study analysis of the DIAdIC trial.
Supporting psychoeducational functioning for advanced cancer patients and informal caregivers can be challenging. Self-managed digital interventions offer a possible cost-effective alternative but often face low engagement. The aim of this study was to understand engagement with the iFOCUS intervention (a dyadic psychoeducational digital intervention designed to be completed simultaneously by patients with advanced cancer and their informal caregiver) and why it failed to improve the expected outcomes. Adults with intellectual disability are living longer and ageing with more illness. This impacts healthcare utilisation. Yet little is known about how healthcare utilisation changes over time as this population ages. This study aims to examine trends in healthcare utilisation and health conditions among older Irish adults with intellectual disability with a particular focus on how sociodemographic and clinical characteristics are associated with healthcare utilisation over time.
